Video Games I Like

Here is a list of my top ten favorite games.

Banjo Tooie

Banjo Tooie has been one of my all time favorites for nearly 20 years. Nothing will take its spot. The game is insane. The worlds are massive and varied - even the hub-worlds are good. The music is amazing. I never get tired of listening to the soundtrack. The levels, puzzles, and gameplay is well crafted and fun. I loved Banjo Kazooie as well, but if I had to decide between the two, Tooie takes first place. This game was way ahead of its time.

Super Mario 64

SM64 was my first console game. I don't think there is anyone who has played this game and disliked it. Its good for all the reasons Banjo Tooie is good. To think a 3D game this good came out in 1996 - a year when 3D games were just barely getting started - is awe-inspiring. This game set the standard for all 3D games going forward. Nintendo never disappoints.

Pikmin 2

Pikmin 1 was excellent and innovative as well, but Pikmin 2 took everything good about 1, and amplified it 10x. This game is challenging in a really good way! Solving the games many puzzles is so rewarding. Despite being a single player game, the multi-player mode was really good! They just don't make games like this anymore.

9 Hours 9 Persons 9 Doors

This is a fairly obscure Japanese visual novel (though it did get an American release). The story telling in this game is top-notch, as is its puzzles. I never was bored for even a second while playing this. The next installments in this series were superb as well, but none stand up to the first game, in my opinion.

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess

I have never played a Zelda game I didn't like. The Zelda franchise is a series of masterpieces, and this is my favorite out of all of them. First of all, I love the thematic elements of this game. Its dark, "twilight-like", design. The story is the best of the series (yes, even better than Majora's Mask and Ocarina of Time). I recommend playing the Gamecube version over the Wii version.

Dark Souls

I just finished playing this game in 2019. This game changed my gaming life. The game is truly a masterpiece. Despite its controversy, I think the games difficulty is perfect, and probably the best thing about it. In a time where developers make games that hold the player's hand, it is such a breath of fresh air to play something that treats the player like an intelligent human being. This games theme, level design, story, and gameplay are all amazing. This game created a new standard.

Astral Chain

I like this game for many of the same reasons I like Dark Souls. The battle sequences are incredibly fun and challenging. I'm still playing this game now (2020), and have logged 100 hours so far. Highly, highly recommended.

Mirror's Edge

This game seemed to come out of nowhere. The idea of parkouring (is that a word?) a-top buildings in a dystopian cyberpunk city is really cool. Very few games have been able to replicate the feeling you get from this one.

Final Fantasy XIII

This is the game that got me into the Final Fantasy franchise. In fact, I bought a PS3 just so I could play this game. The game gets a lot of flack, but I really enjoyed its story, and linear gameplay. A true JRPG, if there ever was one.

Planescape Torment

Planescape Torment is a very obscure title. Few people know about it outside of retro gaming circles. Everyone who has played it knows just how good it is. The story for this game is phenomenal. Reading in a video game is usually a boring task, but not in this one, you WANT to read. The NPC scripts are so well written.
